Searching for Canton Asylum Patients

St. Elizabeths in Washington, DC is working on a memorial project for the patients buried in its cemetery. The project coordinator is searching for information about Canton Asylum patients transferred to St. Elizabeths in 1933, who will be included in that memorial. If you have any information about them, particularly about their lives before they were in Canton Asylum, my contact and I would both appreciate it. If you’d like to provide any details, you may send your information to a private email at: deet84803@mypacks.net.

I’m so sorry about your ancestor, but I’m glad I could help just a bit. I’m afraid I don’t have any information (or not much) about the people on the roll, which is why I was asking about the names. I do have a bit of information on some of the Canton patients, so please let me know if I can help you at all.

    Best regards,
    Carla

    Hi,

I came about this after seeing roll that said someone had been sent here. I am writing because I believe my grandfather has either both of his parents or at least one taken here . We were always told his surname was a alias but he never spoke of his family. I just burst into tears reading this.. Thank you for writing this and I will be buying a copy. My heart just breaks for him. He has passed and we know very little other than him saying his tribe was a small one. He had ruddy brown skin and was of small stature.
